The Khopra Ridge with Khayar Lake Trek is one of the off-the-beaten treks in Nepal which provides a remarkable view of the Himalayas that includes the Dhaulagiri range and Annapurna range despite it being located away from the busier trails of the Annapurna region. Khayar Lake is the major attraction of the trek which is just a few kilometers away from Khopra Ridge.

Throughout the Khopra Ridge trek, you can explore the fascinating natural beauty, walk through the dense isolated forests of rhododendron, oak, and pine, and explore the Gurung and Magar settlements. The trails take you to encounter the rich flora and fauna of the region. It is one of the moderately difficult treks that will ask for a trek for about 7-8 hours a day.

The Khopra Ridge (4,620m/15,153ft) offers an amazing view of the Kali Gandaki River with views of the farthest valley in the deepest gorge in the world. The shimmering panorama of ice and snow from the ridge is truly magnificent. The best months to go for the Khopra Ridge trek is from March, April, and May to walk with the beauty of beautiful rhododendron all the way. You can also choose the fall in September to November to trek to the lake.

Itinerary

Our representative from Nepal Vision Treks will pick up you from the airport after you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport. He will be helping you with your transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu. You will have time for refreshments at the hotel. In the evening, we will meet again for the welcome dinner in one of the typical Nepalese restaurants in the heart of Kathmandu. We will have a short brief about your trip and overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast, we will start the guided sightseeing tour around the cultural world heritage sites in Kathmandu valley. We visit the pilgrimage sites of the Hindu temple Pashupatinath, the world's biggest Bouddhanath Stupa, and Swoyambhunath Stupa also known as the monkey temple. Moreover, you will have an exciting tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square with the temple, unique architecture, and Kumari (living goddess). Around the evening you will have a pre-trip discussion and introduction session with our fellow trekking staff for your adventurous trip.

You will drive to Pokhara by private vehicle early morning, full of inspiration with the chirping sound of birds and exploring the stunning views of the beautiful Nepalese countryside along the binding road. You will be transferred to the hotel in the evening after we reach Pokhara. You will have some free time to explore the surrounding lakeside areas and overnight at the hotel.

The trek will start after breakfast in the early morning. You will have an hour's drive with our trekking guide to get to Nayapul from where our trek to Birethanti starts. Birethanti is a large and prosperous town beside the Modi River. We head up the main trail to Ghandruk with lots of joy and adventure. Overnight at Ghandruk.

After breakfast, we will pass Ghandruk village and ascend to reach the rhododendron forest from where you can reach Bhaise Kharka. There are few tea houses in Bhaise Kharkha. After lunch, we will again ascend up through the thick rhododendron forest, that leads to local water buffalo pastures. We will take a gradual climb that will soon emerge above the tree line to superb views of the Annapurna range. The climb continues gradually up through the open countryside to reach a small pass, where the trail descends through a rhododendron forest to an open clearing known as Bhaise Kharka and the lodge. You can have great views of Dhaulagiri Himal from the lodge. Stay overnight at Lodge.

We will have distinct views of the rare species of trees, which are not frequently available in Nepal. It will take about two hours to reach the top from Chistibang, the steep way up. On the top, we could see beautiful, Rhododendron, Dhaulagiri, Tukhuche Peak, Damphus Peak, Nilgiri, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and deep down Sikha. After fifteen minutes walk from here, you will be at the top of Khopra Ridge. We will reach the lodge overnight.

As you head even higher and even closer to Annapurna, you will feel much more wonderful. We will get up early to watch the sun rise from behind the many Annapurna peaks to your east. Make sure you catch the first rays of the sun to hit the face of Mount Dhaulagiri to the west. After breakfast, you will trek up the steep lower slopes of the Annapurna Massif itself. You must take the walk very slowly as the altitude gain will be over 1,000m. This will be another challenging day but the most stunning Himalayan mountain scenery rewards you for every step you take. The Khyer Lake sits in a steep valley with Annapurna high above. When standing at the lake you will be just six kilometers from the summit of Annapurna South. Eventually, you will need to retrace your steps and descend back to Khopra Ridge.

After breakfast, we will descend from Khopra to Narchyang. The trail will lead you downhill to Narchyang village which will be our home for the night. In the evening, we will have some free time for more exploration of the village. Overnight at the teahouse.

After breakfast, we will start our day descending from Narchyang to Tatopani. The trail will take us downhill through Tatopani. After reaching Tatopani, we can relax for some time. You can also take a hot bath. We will then drive to Beni, the district headquarter, After reaching Beni we will continue our drive back to Pokhara for an overnight stay. You will be your free time to have a visit around the lakeside area and simply relax for the rest of the time.

We will drive back to Kathmandu early in the morning passing through the beautiful Nepalese countryside. After our arrival in Kathmandu, we will check into the hotel. You will have relaxation time or you can also explore the surrounding areas. Overnight at hotel.

On the last day of the trip, you can go for any last-minute shopping for souvenirs or gifts for your family, friends, or relatives. You can commence any extra trips or activities you may have booked with us.
