Day 01 Arrival at Paro (By Druk Air) – Transfer to Thimphu

The flight to Paro with Druk Air will give you an introduction to the spectacular beauty of the country. You can enjoy the magnificent views in the clear weather. You will be briefed by our guide and transferred to Paro town for lunch after clearing visa customs. After lunch, we will visit the National Museum of Paro, built in the seventeenth century, holding the artifacts of Thangkas, stuffed animals and birds, the history of Bhutan, textiles, and armor, household objects.

We will also visit the Rimpung Dzong and then depart to Thimphu, the modern capital of Bhutan.

The 1.5-hour drive will take us to Thimphu, made up of just three lines of shops. It is the only capital in the world without traffic lights. We will visit the Tashi Chhoedzong, which is also known as the “fortress of the glorious religion” in the evening. Later in the evening, we will take a short visit to the Handicrafts Emporium, which has all types of Bhutanese handicrafts for sale. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 02 Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast, we will take a drive to visit National Memorial Chorten. This stupa was built in 1974. The paintings and statues inside the monument will provide you the deep insight into Buddhist philosophy. This Chorten is one of the most visited religious structures in Thimphu. We will then visit Buddha point, one of the biggest statues.

We will also visit the Weekly Outdoor Market, where everyone goes to buy fruits and vegetables, rice, grains, chilies, and other fresh foods. After this, we will visit the Zilukha Nunnery, and Motithang Mini-Zoo (home of the bizarre Takin, the national animal of Bhutan). We’ll also have a visit to the Bhutanese Handmade Paper Factory followed by dinner and an overnight at the hotel.

Day 03 Thimphu – Punakha

After breakfast, we will depart to Punakha, an ancient and popular capital of Bhutan. The road to Thimpu will climb steeply through a forest of pine and cedar, festooned with hanging lichen high up near Dochula pass (3,050 m). This pass will often offer us panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain ranges, the most beautiful thing about the day. We will then descend along a series of hairpin bends to the fertile valley of Punakha and continue the drive to Lobeysa, after stopping for tea and the view. We will take a short hike of about 20 minutes to Chime Lhakhang, the temple of the “Divine Madman”. It is known as the temple of fertility which brings lots of devotees every year. After the visit, we will walk back to the road point and take the drive to Punakha where we will visit Punakha Dzong, an ancient capital of Bhutan, spanning the MoChu and Pho Chu rivers. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 04 Punakha –Wangdue – Paro

After breakfast, we will take the drive to Wangdue, one of the major towns and district headquarters of Western Bhutan. On the way, we will make a short stop to view the ruined Wangdue Phodrang Dzong which is dramatically located on the spur of a hill at the confluence of the Tsang Chhu and Dang Chhu. We will continue our drive to Paro via Thimphu. We will then visit the National Library after lunch where we explore the ancient books. After this, we will visit the Folk Heritage Museum where we will get connected with the  Bhutanese rural past through an exhibition of items and artifacts. You should also visit the Institute of Traditional Medicine, where acupuncture and herbal remedies are still practiced. We will then drive back to Paro where we spend our evening strolling around the small town. We will enjoy the last dinner and spend the evening time in a Cultural Program consisting of mask dances and folk songs at the hotel.
