I had always dreamed of exploring the Himalayas, but with limited time, I wanted a trek that was beautiful, manageable, and off the beaten path. That’s how I discovered the Panchase Trek, a hidden gem near Pokhara. The journey takes you through the perfect mix of lush forests, terraced rice fields, traditional Gurung villages, and some of the most stunning mountain panoramas.

From the serene beauty of Pokhara to trekking along the trails of Panchase Hill, passing forest paths, stairways, and winding village lanes, each step revealed terraced fields, local homes, playful children, rare birds, and monkeys in the trees. The highlight, of course, was the majestic views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal, Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre, and even Manaslu, rising proudly in the distance. Sunrises here were magical, bathing the peaks in golden light.

Every moment on the Panchase trails felt unforgettable, and the surprises waiting around each corner made it one of the most memorable adventures of my life. So, how about we take a short glimpse into my joyful journey on the Panchase Trek?

Challenges I Faced & How I Overcame Them Climbing Panchase Hill was physically demanding, and some narrow or slippery paths required extra care. These small steps made the trek enjoyable and rewarding.

Getting Ready: How I Prepped for My Panchase Trek Adventure

Before setting off, I began by researching trekking companies and finally chose Nepal Vision Treks, which guided me through the whole process. They helped arrange my permits, suggested the right gear, and gave practical advice on packing.

Following their recommendations, I made a detailed packing list that included layered clothing, trekking boots, a daypack, trekking poles, a sleeping bag, and all the essentials I might need along the trail.

Meanwhile, they also showed me the importance of preparing both physically and mentally, so I spent time getting myself ready:

Physical preparation:

  • Daily short hikes and brisk walks
  • Stair climbing to build endurance
  • Leg-strengthening exercises like squats and lunges
  • Core workouts for balance on uneven terrain
  • Light cardio sessions to improve stamina

Mental preparation:

  • Meditation and breathing exercises to stay calm during long walks
  • Visualization of the trails and mountain scenery
  • Planning for challenges and setting realistic expectations

After landing in Nepal, I took a day to explore the Kathmandu Valley, soaking in the culture and atmosphere. I also used this time to shop for light snacks and pick up a few last-minute items that could be useful on the trek, ensuring I was fully prepared before heading to Pokhara.

Pokhara Magic: My First Impressions Before the Trek

Pokhara, the City of Lakes, immediately felt like stepping into another world. Phewa Lake had a magical calmness, its surface reflecting the towering Himalayan peaks like a mirror, while Begnas Lake added a quiet charm, tucked away among rolling hills and forests. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, everything felt almost surreal, as if time had slowed and the world was holding its breath just for me.

As I wandered along the lakeside, taking in the gentle sway of boats and the soft calls of birds, I could feel my heart beginning to pound with excitement. The anticipation of the Panchase Trek coursed through me, blending with the serene beauty around me. Every step, every glance at the mountains, reminded me that soon I would be walking those trails myself, surrounded by untouched nature and local village life.

During the day, I took the opportunity to shop for light snacks and last-minute essentials, ensuring that my daypack was ready and well-prepared. At the same time, I allowed myself to pause, breathe, and absorb the peaceful energy of Pokhara, a final calm before the adventure began.

By evening, as the Himalayan silhouettes were etched against a glowing sky, I felt a mix of calm and exhilaration. Mentally and physically prepared, yet my heart still raced with excitement for what awaited on Panchase Hill. Looking back, Pokhara had quietly cast its spell on me, a perfect prelude to a trek that promised breathtaking views, hidden trails, and unforgettable moments.

Trekking Diary: Walking Through Panchase’s Trails

When reflecting on my Panchase Trek, it is impossible not to smile at all the memories-the sights, sounds, and the little things that made this one so memorable.

I began the adventure with a calm boat ride over Phewa Lake, surrounded by the Himalayan Mountains. Then the path led on through green woods, over mossy rocks and singing birds. There were terraced rice fields and little village houses along the road, and children waving. The World Peace Pagoda is situated on a mountain, and while climbing it, I got a great view of Pokhara. The lakes and the mountains in the distance provided an excellent backdrop for the trek to start on a great note.

With every new stride, I was rewarded by new mountain scenery as I moved through the silent Gurung villages and zigzag tracks. In the distance, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal, Mardi Himal, and Machhapuchhre appeared, along with the forest trails, streams, and village life, which kept the journey lively and full of surprises.

Another of the most enchanting scenes was the morning walk up to Panchase Hill. Into pine and rhododendron woods, and reached the summit, when the sun shone golden over the mountains. That serenity, loveliness, and wonder were the heart of the whole journey.

The last mile to Bhadaure and Naudanda was across level tracts, brooks, and hamlets. We had a fantastic view of Pokhara, Phewa Lake, and the surrounding mountains from Naudanda. When I returned to Pokhara, I was grateful for the adventure, the serene forest, the friendly villagers, and the beauty of the Himalayas.

Savoring the Trails: Food, Lodging, and Gurung Village Life

Exploring the local culture and local tastes were among the most significant aspects of my Panchase Trek. Spending the nights in homely teahouses, many of them conducted by pleasant and hospitable families, gave me the actual run of life in the hills.

Porridge and eggs in the morning, Dal Bhat, momos, and plain curries in the middle of the day and night, served as a soothing meal after a tiring day on the trail. Evenings were spent in the light of wood-burning stoves, telling stories to fellow trekkers or listening to what the locals had to say.

I was attracted to the hospitality of the people strolling through the villages of Gurung, children waving, women working in their fields, and old men smiling and greeting me. Staying at the homestays, I was directly exposed to their cultures and hospitality, either through cooking their traditional foods at home or observing other local practices with them.

It brought the trek to life, not merely a walk through the mountains, but a walk into Nepalese village life, a place where each meal, each smile, each word, and conversation provided a small adornment to the trail.

The Challenges I Faced (And How I Overcame Them)

Although the Panchase Trek is regarded as an easy and beginner-friendly trek, I soon understood that no trek is devoid of small battles. The climb was strenuous, particularly the ascent to Panchase Hill. My legs hurt, and there were also times when I needed to rest, take a breath, and remind myself to continue.

The next problem was that it was challenging to cover the twisting village paths and forest roads. There were also some slim or slippery paths, particularly during the rainy season when they were slick from the morning dew, and I was cautious. Although the altitude was relatively moderate, I still needed to listen to my body. Being well-hydrated, taking a break, and not rushing were all that mattered.

It can be easy to get mentally stuck during a multi-day trek. On some mornings, it was a temptation not to walk out to the warm teahouse. However, with the breathtaking mountain scenery, the sounds of birds, and the laughter of villagers along the path, I continued.

The following are some of the factors that assisted me in overcoming these obstacles:

  •  Pacing myself: I need to take small steps and not overwork.
  •  Hydration and nutrition: drinking water and eating nuts or energy bars.
  •  Mental focus: Reminding myself of what I will see and experience up the mountain.
  • With trekking poles: Made the uphill and downhill climbs very easy on my knees.
  • Meeting locals and fellow trekkers: Sharing stories and laughs provided me with an uplift.

To wrap up, the Panchase Trek is a perfect mix of mountain views, lush forests, and village life, ideal for beginners, families, or anyone short on time but craving a Himalayan experience.
