Key Comparisons Between Annapurna Base Camp and Langtang Trek

Now take the time to compare key factors of both treks to help you decide which trail is a better fit for your goals, time, and experience level.

Difficulty

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek covers about 110 km and takes you up to 4,130 m at the base camp. The trail has a mix of steep climbs and descents, with many stone steps that can challenge your knees and legs. It’s a moderate trek, so you'll need good fitness and some basic acclimatization.

Langtang Valley Trek is a bit shorter, around 77 kilometres. But it reaches a higher point at 4,984 meters if you decide to climb Tserko Ri peak. The trail mostly follows steady uphill and downhill paths through beautiful forests along the Langtang River, with some steep parts near the start. It’s also a moderate trek but generally easier than Annapurna Base Camp because there are fewer stone steps.

Accommodation and Facilities

In Langtang, you'll mostly find simple teahouses that provide the basics—clean rooms and simple meals. It's perfect if you want a genuine, no-frills trekking experience. Annapurna Base Camp, on the other hand, has many more lodges and restaurants along the way. This means more comfort and choices, but also more tourists, especially in busy seasons.

Trek Duration

Both treks take about the same time. Langtang usually takes around 7 to 10 days, while Annapurna Base Camp can take 7 to 12 days, depending on how fast you go and if you take extra rest days to adjust. The time can change depending on your route and how many side trips you want to do.

Altitude Sickness Risk

Because both treks reach high altitudes, altitude sickness can be a problem. Langtang’s highest point, Tserko Ri, is nearly 5,000 meters, so if you choose to climb that peak, the risk is a bit higher. Annapurna Base Camp sits at about 4,130 meters, but the climb is steady, and you get time to adjust. On both treks, it's important to take it slow and allow your body to get used to the altitude to avoid sickness.

Final Verdict

Both Annapurna Base Camp and Langtang Valley treks offer incredible Himalayan adventures, but the best choice depends on what suits you.

Choose Annapurna Base Camp if you want a longer trek with diverse landscapes, more comfort options, and don’t mind a busier trail and a higher budget. It's perfect for those craving iconic mountain views and a well-established route.

Opt for Langtang Valley if you prefer a shorter, quieter trek with fewer crowds, simpler accommodations, and a more budget-friendly experience. This trek is ideal for peaceful nature lovers looking to immerse themselves in local culture.
