Overview

Three Peak Climb: Pokalde Peak, Island Peak & Lobuche East Peak can be an amazing journey to explore the three famous trekking peaks of Nepal.  The three famous peaks Pokalde Peak(5,806m/19,043ft), Island Peak(6,189m/20,305ft), and Lobuche East Peak(6,119m/20,070 ft) climb is especially for those who wish to embark on an amazing mountain adventure.

Three Peak Climb: Pokalde Peak, Island Peak & Lobuche East Peak Trip Overview:

The Pokalde Peak is comparatively an easier climb than the Island & Lobuche East Peak. Island Peak, which is also known as the Imja Tse is located at the heart of the Everest region derives its name owing to its striking location in the middle of the Chhukung valley, like an Island on a sea of ice is perhaps the most popular peak in the Everest region.

Lobuche East climb is a bit more challenging than the Island Peak. But, our program has been carefully designed keeping in mind gradual ascent, proper acclimatization, and it's escalating complexity. We are sure that the bliss you will experience after scaling three of the most famous Peaks in the Everest region – Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche East - would certainly remain in your memory forever.

Itinerary

Welcome to the Himalayan country of Nepal. Our representative will be waiting for your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport to welcome you and assists you to transfer into your hotel in Kathmandu. After taking some time to get refreshed, you'll meet again in the evening and we will transfer for a welcome dinner in one of the typical Nepalese restaurants in the heart of Kathmandu and briefing about your trip and overnight at Hotel.

We will have a pre-trip discussion and introduction session with our fellow trekking staff for your adventure trip. We will prepare your climbing permits and other necessary documents. We will also check your climbing gear. Overnight at Kathmandu

This morning you'll be transferred to the domestic airport to fly to Lukla. It will take a 40-minute scenic flight to Lukla airport (2,800m/9,184ft) and you will have time to stroll around, while the guide will be sorting and dividing the load of baggage to be carried by porters. The guide will manage the lunch place depending upon the time of arrival at Lukla. We will start our trek further to Phakding passing some Sherpa villages and farms. We will follow the trail to Dudhkoshi River and further down on route to Phakding. The walk will be gradual most of the way, with a few ups from Thado khola, where you can have a superb view of Kusum-Kangaru (6,369m/20,890ft) crossing a short suspension bridge, from here after a short climb, we will reach the Ghat village, another one and half hour of the gradual walk will then bring you to Phakding village for the overnight stop and stroll around the village for local knowledge.

The trek will start in the morning and after crossing the suspension bridge over the Dudh-Kosi the walk gets quite pleasant with a few short uphill and downhill and re-crossing the same river again with a magnificent view of Mt. Thamserku (6,608m/21,675ft) from the Benkar village. The trek will continue till we cross the bridges to reach  Monjo. It is the entrance gate of the Sagarmatha National Park, where your trekking permit is checked. They will also keep a record of all trekkers going to and from this place including the local trekking staff as well. When we enter the National park boundary, we will then descend and a gradual walk will bring us to the suspension bridge over the Dudh-Koshi river. After the bridge, we will reach the Jorsalle village, the last village till Namche Bazaar. The walk gets pleasant on the river bank till the last bridge over the Dudh-Koshi river will be reached. The walk will be along the winding uphill path all the way to Namche Bazaar, with a magnificent view of Kwangde peak and its other sister peaks towards the east with Kusum kangaru on the back as you climb higher, view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and the closer view of Tawache peak can be seen from some part on the way to Namche. Finally, we will reach a colorful house called Namche Bazaar, the main gate of the Khumbu region. We will have an overnight stay at the hotel.

You will have a full day of leisure. You can also choose to visit Everest View Point hotel for a wonderful panoramic view or stroll around the market if it's Saturday. You can see many people in the Saturday market shopping to fulfill their daily needs as it is the only shopping market in the surrounding areas. Also, you can visit the Sherpa Museum, a great place to learn about Sherpa culture and the history of mountaineering. We will stroll back to the hotel for the overnight.

After a stroll around the Namche area, we will take a short time for refreshments, which will fairly help us for an easy to walk further on. Our walk will follow the gradual trail with few short up and downs overlooking magnificent views of the great giant snow peaks from Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kwangde peak after a pleasant walk of two hours to a small place at Shanasa, from here the trail will descend to Dudh-Koshi river at Phungithanga, a small settlement with a couple of teahouses. The trail will lead us uphill through the forested path of silver fir, blue pines, rhododendron, and a few magnolia and birch trees. After two hours of hard walking, we will get to Tyangboche, one of the most beautiful places in the Himalayas. The first thing that comes to your eye will be the big Monastery or Gumba, then the large field with campsites and teahouses, lodges beneath the towering majestic beautiful peak Ama Dablam, Everest, Mt. Lhotse, and Lhotse Shar towards the northeast, and more peaks all around you.

The trek will start with a pleasant walk and descend through a forest of birch, fir, juniper, and rhododendron coming to a lovely spot at Deboche (3,650 m) with a magnificent view of mountains and past the long prayer mani wall. The path will be gradual up to the Pangboche village, from here onwards the lush vegetation and tree lines vanish. We will enter the Imjatse Valley to the Dingboche. The place offers a great view of the mighty peaks of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Lhotse with a view of the eastern snow-capped mountains including the Island peak or Imjatse 6,189m, which is a popular peak amongst all the trekking peaks in Nepal. Dingboche is a beautiful patchwork of fields enclosed by stonewalls, protecting the crops of barley, buckwheat, and potatoes from the cold winds and grazing animals. Dingboche has about more than ten teahouses and it is also the gateway to Chukung and farther beyond for the most challenging traverses towards the Makalu area and Hinko Valley via Sherpani col (6,100m) and Amphu Laptsa pass (5,780m).

We will take a day to rest for acclimatization at Dingboche Valley. After an early morning breakfast, we will hike up to Nagarjuna viewpoint (5,050 m) just north of Dingboche. From here, you can see many towering peaks in front of you with a close view of Mt. Lhotse. Also a good view of Mt. Makalu, Island peak, Amadablam, Tawache, Cholatse, Lobuche Peak, and many more from the top. This is one of the best-hidden viewpoints and a way to good acclimatize the climbers. We will enjoy a stroll back to Dingboche for the overnight stay.

After breakfast, we will trek to Chhukung. The trek will move thoroughly upward as we will be traveling towards the higher elevations. The trek might be long, taking about 8-9 hours. We will pass through the steep hills, and climb the difficult paths to finally reach our destination. We will reach Chhukung late in the evening. We will have an overnight stay in one of the lodges in Chhukung.

We will trek further on our journey with a steep way climbing the southern part then turning east to the main line of the valley. The path will then winds along or below the southern flank of the moraine from the Lhotse Glacier. We will continue short pleasant walking along a streamside that will lead us to what we call “Big-rock”. The route to the Amphu Lapcha lies to the southeast. A crisis cross route through the Imja and Lhotse glacier moraines will lead us to a wide valley flanking the southwest side of Island Peak. We'll reach the Island peak base camp and overnight at the tented camp.

We will start our climb early morning through the rock gully. This will not be much difficult but there will be several short rock steps to climb before you will emerge on the right side of the gully. The route will then follow a ridgeline, which will lead to an exhilarating and exposed traverse onto the snout of the summit glacier. You will need to rope up for the glacier as it will contain several crevasses. The path will lead without difficulty, to a 100m/330ft snow and ice slope (40-45 degrees) on which the guides will fix a rope. From the top of this slope, 3 rope lengths along a sharp summit ridge will lead us further to the top. You can enjoy success and be brave to get a summit. After some picture-taking of scenic views, we will descend all the way to base camp overnight.

We will trek to Chhukung after a successful ascent to the Island Peak Climb. Chhukung is the best destination to get a mesmerizing view of the multiple mountains. We need to walk slowly and at a normal pace. We will be retracing our way downwards and trekking the same way we climbed a few days earlier. Overnight in Chhukung.

We will take a day off to rest after the climb. We will need to take a day for the acclimatization after the change in altitude for the two days. Our body needs to be familiar with the change that had been in the past few days. This day can be a complete rest day for you after the climb. If you are tired after the climb, you can stay all day long in the lodge being warm and cozy. You can also choose to explore the surrounding areas of Chhukung if you plan to spend the day hiking. The place is the best destination to get the mesmerizing view of the multiple mountains. Overnight in Chhukung.

After an early breakfast, we will trek to the Pokalde Base Camp. We will trek to the steep climbing trail that will take us about 5 to 6 hours to reach the base camp. Though the trek will be short, we will take this as an advantage for acclimatizing purposes. We can learn some ice-climbing skills at the base camp. The base camp of Pokalde Peak is situated near a large circular lake in the middle below the Kongma La pass. Besides, the base camp of the peak, you will receive captivating views of Mt. Makalu, Mt. Amadablam, the southern face of the Nuptse, and many other remarkable mountain peaks in the Everest region. Overnight at Pokalde Peak Base Camp.

We will wake up early in the morning and move forth toward our destination. This section of the trip will be demanding as the trip follows the slightly difficult climbing trail through stones. The climbing trail will ultimately reach the narrow rocky summit, Pokalde Peak. Upon conquering the apex of Pokalde Peak, we will observe the most breathtaking and panoramic views of the world’s highest mountains, which include the views of Mt Makalu, Ama Dablam, Pumori, and a number of other tallest peaks in the Khumbu region. After celebrating the captivating vistas from the top of the peak, we will retrace back passing through Kongma La Pass to the long way back to Lobuche. Overnight at Lodge in Lobuche.

After breakfast, we will trek to Lobuche Base Camp. You will begin to follow a steep ascent path from Lobuche till we arrive at Lobuche Base Camp, walking along the banks of Lobuche Glacier, enjoying the spectacular views of Cholaste, Tawache, Ama Dablam, Pokalde, Thamserku, and many more. We will further move up to a high camp on the mountain. It will take us about four hours to climb up the bouldery scree and some snow to the site of the high camp. We will set on a small expanse of snow or rock, above a deep, blue lake and close to the mountain. The tents will be shared to keep the load numbers down. You have to go early to bed for a very early alpine start. Overnight at Lobuche High Camp.

We will start early (around 2.30 am) to start climbing the South East Ridge, which is a mixture of moderately steep snow and ice. We will fix ropes along the route. We will ascend steadily to a plateau at around 6000m, and then traverse around to an exposed ridge, which we will follow to the summit slopes. Approximately after six hours of steady climbing, the path will bring us to the far eastern summit. From here, we will take a steady climb along the summit ridge towards the east summit, which for us will mark our summit. The main summit will not be much far in distance but requires some technical climbing which is normally beyond the ability of novice climbers, certainly in terms of the time it would take. This final section of the climb is not for the faint-hearted, as there are huge drops on both sides, so this section will definitely be fixed with a rope. From the top, we will be well rewarded with superb views across to Ama Dablam, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, Nuptse, Changtse (in Tibet) Pumori, Gyachung Kang, Cho Oyu, and the myriad peaks to the west and south. After a full day's climbing, we will retrace our steps back to Lobuche High Camp. The day's climb could be anywhere between nine to ten hours, depending on conditions and our progress.

We will retrace our steps back to Lobuche Village. It will take us about 6-7 hours to reach the village. The walk will be followed by the beautiful scenery of the mountains beside us. We will start the hike with a little breakfast. The walk continues till we reach Lobuche in the evening. We will stay at Lobuche overnight.

After breakfast, we will follow on the gradual downhill overlooking magnificent views of the great Himalayas. The last trail will take us 30 minutes uphill through the forested path to reach Tyangboche. This is one of the most beautiful places in the Himalayas. The first thing that will come to your eye will be the big Tyangboche Monastery, with its stunning background of Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest, and other peaks. Explore the monastery and its surrounding. Overnight at Tyangboche.
