Overview

Climbing Mera Peak in Nepal is like a fantastic adventure! This peak is the highest trekking peak around, standing tall at 6,476 meters. You'll go through amazing places in the Himalayas, charming Sherpa villages, and lush forests to reach the famous Mera Peak summit.

Guess what? You don't need to be a super climber for this. If you're fit and ready to explore, with basic mountaineering skills, you can totally do it. You don't need to be a pro. Mera Peak is known as one of the easier climbing peaks in Nepal.

Mera Peak Climb Trip Introduction:

The journey takes you through cool places like the Hinku valley, where you'll see beautiful Sherpa villages, green forests, and stunning mountain views. And hey, you get two days to get used to the high altitude, making sure you're ready for the big climb. The whole plan is set up to make sure you have an awesome time and reach the top with a big smile!

Our exciting journey kicks off from Lukla and takes us through the captivating wilderness of the Khumbu region until we reach the Zatar La pass at 4,610 meters. From there, our ultimate destination is the magnificent Mera Peak at 4,800 meters (that's around 15,700 feet above sea level).

While most of the climb requires basic crampon and ice axe skills, the real treat is the jaw-dropping views. During this journey, you'll be able to spot five of the world's highest mountains: Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kangchenjunga. These giants, ranging from 8,201 to 8,586 meters in height, will be there to awe and inspire you along the way.

 

Itinerary Outline:

 

1st Day: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,265ft)
2nd Day: Fly to Lukla (2,860m/9,383ft), trek to Paiyu
3rd Day: Trek from Paiyu to Panggom
4th Day: Trek from Panggom to Ningsow
5th Day: Ningsow to Chhatra Khola
6th Day: Chhatra Khola to Kothe
7th Day: Kothe to Thaknak
8th Day: Thaknak to Khare
9th Day: Acclimatization and pre–climb training at Khare
10th Day: Khare to Mera High Camp
11th Day: Mera High Camp to Summit (6,476m/21,247ft) and back to Khare
12th Day: Khare to Kothe
13th Day: Kothe to Thuli Kharka
14th Day: Thuli Kharka to Lukla via Zatrwa La pass (4,580m/15,026ft)
15th Day: Fly to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,265ft)

Upon your arrival in the vibrant and culturally rich city of Kathmandu, our team will be there to extend a warm welcome and assist you with the necessary arrangements. You'll be transferred to your comfortable accommodations, providing you with a chance to rest and recover from your journey. As you settle in, you can take in the bustling atmosphere and begin to immerse yourself in the unique charm of Nepal's capital.

An exciting day awaits as you board a scenic flight to Lukla, a town nestled at an altitude of 2,860 meters. The flight itself offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan landscape, setting the tone for your adventure. Once in Lukla, your trekking journey begins. You'll make your way through picturesque trails, passing by traditional villages and absorbing the awe-inspiring natural beauty. Your destination for the day is Paiyu, where you'll be greeted by stunning vistas and a sense of accomplishment.

Continuing your trek, you'll set out from Paiyu towards Panggom. The trail will lead you through varying terrain, from lush forests to rugged paths that provide glimpses of the towering peaks around you. This transitional journey offers a chance to fully connect with the environment, as you share the trail with fellow trekkers and locals, witnessing their way of life amidst the mountains.

Today's trek carries you from Panggom to Ningsow, presenting new landscapes to explore and unique cultural encounters. The trail's twists and turns take you through verdant valleys and across charming bridges that span roaring rivers. The beauty of the Himalayan region is complemented by the simplicity and authenticity of the local villages you'll pass through, providing insights into the daily lives of the residents.

Embarking on another day of adventure, you'll move from Ningsow to Chhatra Khola. The route introduces you to a blend of terrain, from terraced fields to rhododendron-filled forests. As you traverse the path, your connection with the surroundings deepens, and the camaraderie among your fellow trekkers grows stronger. The landscapes unfold before you, allowing you to truly appreciate the natural wonders of this Himalayan paradise.

As you set forth on the trail from Chhatra Khola to Kothe, the rhythm of the trek becomes second nature. The stunning backdrop of mountains and the gentle melodies of the surroundings make the journey even more enchanting. Each step takes you closer to Kothe, offering a blend of tranquility and excitement as you anticipate the unique experiences this leg of the journey has in store.

The trail from Kothe to Thaknak unveils the Himalayan region's remarkable biodiversity and geological formations. The landscapes transition from lush forests to rocky terrains, guiding you to the serene enclave of Thaknak. This segment of the trek provides a sense of accomplishment, allowing you to appreciate the path you've traversed so far and the challenges you've overcome.

Today's trek takes you from Thaknak to Khare, a location that holds particular significance as it serves as the base camp for your impending ascent of Mera Peak. Today's journey involves trekking from Khare to Mera High Camp, where your Mera Peak ascent will truly begin. The day you've been preparing for has arrived – your ascent to the summit of Mera Peak. As you bid farewell to Khare, your trek takes you back to Kothe, retracing your steps and reflecting on the transformative experiences of the past days. Descending further, your trek from Kothe to Thuli Kharka is marked by the subtle shifts in the landscape, as well as the warm interactions with locals you've met along the way. Embarking on the penultimate day of your trekking adventure, you'll trek from Thuli Kharka to Lukla via the Zatrwa La Pass. Each step is a testament to your determination and resilience, while the breathtaking scenery serves as a reminder of the majestic power of the Himalayas.

FAQ

The Mera Peak Climb is 15 days long. The trek is challenging due to its path so the trek is slow and takes around 15 days on average.

With the increase in elevation and trail, Mera Peak climbing is more difficult than Island Peak climbing.

Individual trekkers can get their trekking permits, only the government-registered trekking agencies can obtain the climbing permit for the Mera Trek because the Mera peak climbing cannot be done without a guide.

Mera Peak is one of the most difficult and challenging treks to climb located at 5,780m which is challenging trek due to its technical path.

Alternatives to Mera Peak climbing in Nepal include Island Peak (Imja Tse), Lobuche Peak, Mera & Island Peak via Amphu Laptsa, & Pisang Peak all offering challenging climbs and stunning views of himalayas.
