Itinerary

The flight to Paro with Druk Air will give you an introduction to the spectacular beauty of the country. You can enjoy the magnificent views in the clear weather. You will be briefed by our guide and transferred to Paro town for lunch after clearing visa customs. After lunch, we will visit the National Museum of Paro, built in the seventeenth century, holding the artifacts of Thangkas, stuffed animals and birds, the history of Bhutan, textiles, and armor, household objects. We will also visit the Rimpung Dzong and then depart to Thimphu, the modern capital of Bhutan.  The 1.5-hour drive will take us to Thimphu, made up of just three lines of shops, and is the only capital in the world without traffic lights. We will visit the Tashi Chhoedzong, which is also known as the “fortress of the glorious religion” in the evening. Later in the evening, we will take a short visit to the Handicrafts Emporium, which has all types of Bhutanese handicrafts for sale. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

After an early breakfast, we will take the short drive to Sangaygang viewpoint to catch the view of Thimphu valley. We will also visit the Motithang Mini Zoo. The trip will be then followed by a visit to Zilukha Nunnery and a short drive to Tango Monastery with a picnic lunch. The hike to the Tango Monastery will take around 45 minutes. The monastery was founded during the thirteenth century and has been housing more than 150 monks at present. The monks are doing their master's and a degree in Buddhist Philosophy and meditation.  We will then walk down to the motorable road and drive back to Thimphu valley, the capital city. We will also visit the Folk Heritage Museum. The museum will connect people to the Bhutanese rural past through the exhibition of items and artifacts used in rural households. In the evening, we will visit the National Memorial Chorten, which was built in honor of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. We will stay overnight at Thimpu.

We will take an early drive to Paro for your hike in the day. The hike from Paro Taktsang (or a horse ride if you desire) to the Taktsang monastery (Tiger’s nest) will be an easy hike that might take about two hours. After reaching the viewpoint, you will enjoy the stunning view of the monastery, where Guru Padmasambhava landed on the back of a tigress in the eighth century. Your lunch will be served at the viewpoint cafeteria which will be then followed by the drive to the ruins of Drukgyal Dzong, 16km away from the valley. The Drukgyal Dzong was built by the great Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, father and unifier of medieval Bhutan in 1647 and destroyed later by accidental fire and left in ruins as an evocative reminder of the great victories it was built to commemorate. You can also explore the ramparts. On a clear day, you may experience an unforgettable view of Mt. Jhomolhari (7,314 m) if the weather favors you. On the way back, you will also get a chance to visit one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, Kyichu Lhakhang. The day ends with an evening walk through Paro’s main shopping district.

After the last breakfast in Bhutan, you’ll take a drive back to the airport. One of our representatives will help you to complete the exit works and will bid you farewell at Paro airport.  Goodbye and hope you have a happy journey back home.                                           -End of Services-
