Overview

Pumori Expedition, a 35 days expedition of the beautiful pyramid-shaped peak spreading between Nepal and Tibet, Mt. Pumori(7,161m) is just a few kilometers away from Mt. Everest. Pumori Himal is also famed as a premier peak above 7,000m peaks in the Everest Region. The Expedition requires excellent physical endurance and technical knowledge, which is specially designed for experienced climbers with an excellent physical fitness level. It serves as a gateway to other high-altitude expeditions.

Pumori Expedition Overview:

Mount Pumori offers us sections of wild exposure and views of Lhotse and Everest with other mountains. It lies in the heart of the Khumbu-Himal Himalayan region, a part of the Chomolungma mountain junction. The peak is very easily identified due to its unique shape which means “Unmarried Daughter” as per the language of Sherpas. The climbing route takes us through the thrilling southeast ridge, which makes the climb a technically challenging climb.

This can be an amazing experience to take once in a lifetime to get a complete view of the mesmerizing peaks in the Everest Region. The Pumori Climb, one of the pearls of the Himalayas, is an entertaining trek. The adventure offers you well-traveled Himalayan trails, a wide range of flora and fauna, passing through blossoming rhododendron, pine, birch, and magnolia forests besides the stunning scenery and view of the mountain ranges. The climb begins with an approach from Lukla moving onwards to the ascent to the villages of Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and the Khumbu glacier.

Itinerary

Welcome to the wonderland, Nepal!! As soon as you arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport, you will see one of our representatives waiting for you to welcome you. You will be escorted to your hotel where he will also help you with further check-in. After taking some breaks for refreshment and freshening up, we will meet again. We will move for the dinner in one of the restaurants in the Valley. We will have a welcome dinner together, with a short briefing about our further trip. We will also have a short introduction session with the team members. Overnight at the hotel.

We have planned a two-day trip exploring the sites around the Kathmandu Valley and preparing for our Pumori expedition. We will spend days touring some of UNESCO's world heritage sites in Kathmandu's valley. We will take a trip to Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Patan Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square these days. These places are very rich as per the ancient history of Nepal. You can explore these architectures that were built hundreds of years ago by the kings of Nepal. Besides the sightseeing tour, we will also prepare you with a short rock-climbing session which will be followed by a briefing about the expedition by our sherpas and guides. Prepare yourself for the upcoming journey.

We will take an early morning flight to Lukla. We will drop at Tenzing Norgay Airport, Lukla which is also considered one of the deadliest airports in the world. Lukla is the main entrance to the Khumbu Region. After the adventurous and exciting flight, we will move further towards our destination at Phakding. We will meet all crew members of the expedition, have our lunch and start our trek. Phakding is located on the bank of the Dudh Koshi River which drains the whole of the Khumbu region. It is a small village on the main trade route through the area. After walking for about three to four hours we will finally rest at one of the lodges in Phakding.

We will start our journey towards the beautiful settlement of Namche Bazaar. The trekking trails follow us upstream of the Dudh Kosi Valley. The glorious journey to Mount Pumori takes your breath away with the mesmerizing views of the mountains it provided throughout the journey. During our trek to Namche Bazaar, we will be crossing the rapid Imja Khola upon sturdy suspension bridges multiple times. The trek will be mostly on a plain stretch as we will be spending traipsing along the banks most of the day. A final steep climb to the Sherpa capital will take us to the beautiful Namche Bazaar (3,440m) where we will spend the night in one of its beautiful lodges.

As the altitude has increased, we take a day to make our body familiar with the increasing altitude. Acclimatization is very mandatory for high-altitude treks. We can spend our time hiking and resting around the surrounding areas which can help for faster acclimatizing in the higher region. We will explore Syangboche Hill (3,900m) which offers a mouth-watering view of the entire Everest Region. We will also visit the high Himalayan Sherpa Village- Khumjung. After spending the day exploring the Namche Bazaar, we will return to our lodge for an overnight stay.

We will continue our trek along the banks of the Imja Khola making our way to Tengboche (3,867m). We will move initially with a steep climb out of Namche Bazaar to get to the trail. After crossing the steep, we will continue our walk along the well-maintained trail that will follow a slight gradient. The view from Tengboche makes your walk worth your tiredness. The best part about the hike on this day will be the view of Mt. Everest which can be seen from the trails. Overnight at a lodge.

After having our breakfast, we will move towards a seasonal settlement of Dingboche (4,350m. We will pass through one of the highest, original, and permanent habitations in the valley, at Pangboche. The trek gets more challenging as we go up due to the elevation gain. We will be surrounded by beautiful giant mountains on all sides, making our trek completely worth it. Overnight.

After climbing some elevation higher, we will take another day's rest at the Dingboche. We will also gain some more elevation to acclimatize our bodies. We will start the day with a slow hike up to the upper Imja Valley going through the steep and narrow trails taking us to Chukung (4,730m). We have to acclimatize ourselves for our climbing to the higher elevations. In the evening, we will retrace our steps back to Dingboche for the overnight.

Our trail will lead us downhill to the Pheriche settlement leaving behind the beautiful Dingboche valley. We will take an amazing journey up to a ridge to Dugla moving forward towards the Khumbu Glacier. Eventually, after trekking for about two hours, we will arrive at Dugla crossing a small wooden bridge over the Khumbu glacier river. Here, we'll be having our lunch. We will then continue our uphill trip for another hour taking in the spectacular views of Mt. Pumori and other many high peaks in the Everest region. We will continue our journey till we reach Lobuche overnight.

We will move further toward the Pumori Base Camp on this day. We will take a two to three hours walk to reach the base camp. Once we reach the campsite, our Sherpa team will help us with further setup. We will set up our camp at the base camp and begin further preparations for the rest of the trip up Mt Pumori. As the walk for the day will be just about two hours, you can hike up to take the mountain views from Kala Patthar at 5,545m. Kala Patthar is known for offering the best viewpoints surrounded by beautiful mountains in all directions.

After reaching the base camp, we will spend our days practicing climbing skills with proper acclimatization throughout the climbing period. We will follow in the footsteps of the experienced climbers. Taking the technical climbing skills, we will use the necessary climbing gears to summit Mount Pumori. We should also have to consider the weather conditions on our strenuous journey. The summit rewards us with the amazing experience on the top of the seven thousand with spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Nuptse, and other snow-capped peaks in the region. We will be spending some quality time at the summit before returning to the base camp.

After a successful ascent, we will now head back. We will pack up our belongings and prepare ourselves for the journey way down from the base camp. We will be leaving the Pumori Base Camp after taking a very light breakfast. We will begin our journey retracing the same trail that previously lead us to Lobuche. As we pass the settlements of Pheriche and Dingboche, our road drops gradually from Lobuche. We will reach Pangboche overnight.

Taking a wonderful breakfast at one of the local tea shops in Pangboche, we leave the village behind and start our trek. We will be starting our trek descending toward Deboche. After we reach Deboche, our trail will climb further upward for a while taking us through a lovely pine forest. After a decent climb, our hike will move towards a level trail for a while before we begin a slow descent to Phunke Tenga. Then, the trail becomes moderately uphill as we approach Kyangjuma. You will notice a pleasant trek back to Namche Bazaar from here. Namche is a beautiful settlement, the gateway to Everest and the Sherpa capital. You can go shopping around the local shops and souvenirs around the place.

We will be walking the final walk on our journey. The final day of the expedition takes us from the beautiful settlement of Namche bazaar to the beautiful town, of Lukla. We take the trail through Monjo to reach our destination. The trail winds its way taking us through a lush forest of rhododendron, oak, and tall pine trees. Our path continues taking us through the grassy banks of the Dudh Koshi River. We follow the crests and troughs on the trails.  The trail is generally downhill with a little rise in the terrain till we reach Lukla. We will have a short celebration in Lukla with the team and crew members. Overnight in Lukla.

We will prepare ourselves for an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. We will take a picturesque flight back from the majestic airport of Lukla. After about 45 minutes, we land in the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu. You will be transferred to the hotel. You can rest and refresh yourself. You can also explore the surroundings and shops around the hotel if you aren’t tired after a long journey. A spa or massage can also be a better option to take out the tiredness from your body.

We will be taking a leisurely day in Kathmandu. We have scheduled a leisure day in our itinerary so that we don’t miss our flight back home due to unavoidable circumstances. The weather conditions in Lukla are very unpredictable which may cause our flight to be delayed or canceled. Hence, we will use this day in case of any delays. If we fly on our scheduled flight, we have an extra day in Kathmandu. We will explore the remaining sites on this day. We can take a trip to Pashupatinath Temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, and other many places. A strolling trip around the streets of Thamel for any last-minute shopping to buy some souvenirs for friends and family can be the best thing to do.

After taking our last breakfast, we will move forward for our flight back. We will move as per the flight scheduled for your departure. If you have some time left for the departure, we can take a short stroll around the places in Kathmandu. We hope your journey is the best trip for you. We end our trip after we drop you at the International Airport. Hope we meet again for beautiful trips in the future.
