Overview

Langtang-Helambu Explorer Trek is one of the fascinating treks in the Langtang region in northern Nepal. The trek follows moderate walking challenges. The trekking trail goes through Langtang National Park. The region is home to Langtang Lirung (7,246m/23,772ft), Gang Chhenpo (6,388m/20,958ft), Naya Kangri (5,846m/19,179ft), and Dorje Lakpa (6,966m/22,854ft) mountains.

Langtang-Helambu Explorer Trek Trip Introduction:

The trek commences from Syabrubesi (100km northwest of Kathmandu) and leads through a unique treasure, the bamboo forests to the holy lake of Gosaikunda. Gosaikunda is a culturally authentic place that attracts thousands of pilgrims every year to perform the godly act of taking a dip in the lake.

The Helambu region begins from the Lauribina La pass(4,610m/15,120ft) and will eventually descend to the Melamchi Valley. The region is famous for its Tibetan-influenced Buddhist monasteries, Gosaikunda Lake, and apples. The trek can be an adventure-filled cultural tour of the Himalayas.

Itinerary

As per the plan, one of the representatives will be waiting for you upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport. He will welcome you and assists you to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. In the evening, you'll be transferred to a welcome dinner in one of the typical Nepalese restaurants. We will enjoy the cultural & musical programs followed by a short briefing about your trip and overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast, we will start the day with our guided trip to cultural world heritage sites in Kathmandu Valley. The trip includes visits to the pilgrimage sites of Hindus Pashupatinath temple, the world's biggest Bouddhanath Stupa, and the monkey temple Swoyambhunath Stupa. We will also tour the historical Kathmandu Durbar Square with the temple, unique architecture, and Kumari (living goddess). In the evening, we will have a pre-trip discussion and introduction session with our fellow trekking staff for your adventure trip.

After breakfast, we will drive on a northern highway that twists and climbs over mountain ridges to the Trishuil Valley. The journey will take 7-8 hours taking us through picturesque landscapes, mountain scenery, and local villages. On the way, we will have magnificent views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Mt Kerung of Tibet. Overnight we will relax at a local teahouse in Syabrubesi.

After breakfast, we will start to walk at own our pace. The trail will ascend for around two hours through the forest followed by a climb of about an hour to reach Bamboo Village (1,850m/6,068ft) where we will stop for a hot lunch. This forested path with well-stabilized trails will follow upstream. You might witness the species of birds that live around the bushes. Bee hives hanging on a cliff are another attraction for visitors. We will climb steeply through the bamboo forest to reach the Lama Hotel. Overnight.

We will have a pleasant walk that follows the trail through rhododendron and pine forest for around three hours to reach Ghora Tabela. We will be stopping here for lunch. The surrounding area is dense wild habitat and many small babblers with a lot of herbal can be found here. After lunch, we will walk for another three hours on the scenic trail that takes us to Langtang village where we will stop for the evening.

After breakfast, we will leave early morning. We will start our trek leisurely for around three to four hours to visit Kyanjing Gompa. We will have beautiful views of Mt. Ganchempo and Langtang Lirung from the place. We will be free for visiting the surrounding areas like Yak cheese Factory, Monastery, and local houses in the evening.

We will have a full day to rest and relax in the surrounding area. You can enjoy the views or explore the local area. You can also enjoy the highlights of Cherku-ri (5,150 meters), glacier walks, or Langshisha kharka depending on your fitness and interest.

We will retrace our steps somewhat as we head back from the Gompa. We will have an easy downhill and pleasant walk through the rhododendron forest to Lama Hotel where we will be spending the rest of the night.  We'll be continuing our journey the next day to the Thulo Syabru village.

Our trail will lead us again through the bamboo & rhododendron forest where we might see the local wild boar as well as other animals and birds on the route to Thulo Syabru. We will have a marvelous close-up view of Ganesh Himal on our way back. We will then take an easy downhill walk that follows the river bank. In the last part, we take a steep uphill for a couple of hours to get to the village at Thulo Syabru.

We will walk through a dense forest of pine and rhododendron to reach Sing Gompa (Chandan Bari) where we will be staying overnight. The trail from here is mostly uphill with typically Himalayan terrain. The last few hours remain forested with open areas giving excellent views when looking back on the way we have come. After we will arrive at the hotel, we will get some refreshments and go on the trip to the cheese factory as well as the terrain forested landscape.

We will follow a wonderfully quiet and less trekked trail to reach the holy Gosainkunda Lake passing through Cholagpati and Lauribinayak. We will take a steep climb from Cholagpati which runs with spectacular views and landscape. The area around here is known as the homeland of the Tamangs and Bhotias. Even a short time spent here provides an insight into the rural mountain lifestyles and the cultural contrasts between Hindu and Buddhist villages. We take a stroll around the lake and the surrounding area.

We will start the hike with a short climb from the lake to the Lauribina La pass (4610m15120ft). The pass is situated above the lake where we will be passing a few lakes besides Gosainkunda. After climbing over a ridge of the mountain, we will finally reach Tharepati for an overnight stay.

We will begin our trek with a steep descent down a ravine this morning. The vegetation changes first to large firs then to oak and rhododendron forests from here. We will cross over a stream via a suspension bridge where we will also follow the trail as it makes a short final climb to reach the prosperous Sherpa village of Melamchi. The trail continues its descent to the Melamchi Khola (river). After crossing the bridge, the trail will begin to climb up the other side of the valley towards Tarkeghyang. It's a long climb to this picturesque village, situated on a shelf high above the river. It's the largest village in Helambu and the main destination for trekkers traveling in this region. It is also a good place to take a rest and enjoy the views. Overnight.

We will leave the big village of Tarkeghyang. The trail will make a sweep around the head of the wide valley between Parachin and the pretty village of Gangjwal at around 2500m/8200ft. The trail will then drops down from the edge of the ridge and continue at around the same altitude along the side of the ridge crossing over a number of streams and waterfalls. Finally, we will pass a Gompa before we reach the large village of Sermathang for our overnight stop.

After breakfast, we will follow the trail along the ridge all the way down to Melamchi, at a drop of around 1790m/5871ft. After passing a large Gompa at the southern end of the village, the trail will undulate along the west side of the ridge, passing numerous chortens before dropping down to Kakani. The trail will descend again to the small village of Dubochaur from here. We will continue to descend even more steeply across the ridge to the junction of the Indrawati and Melamchi rivers. We will then cross the suspension bridge over the Melamchi River to reach Melamchi Bazaar for our lunch. We will take a bus to return Kathmandu to this evening. Overnight in Kathmandu.
