Different factors contribute to the difficulty of a particular holiday, including the daily walking distance, the terrain, altitude and weather conditions. Since some of these factors can change, our grades can only provide a general indication. We have tried to make our grading system as clear as possible.
Each of our adventure holidays are divided into Easy, Moderate and Strenuous grades. It is very important that before booking any holiday you should read the appropriate holiday dossier. If you have any questions about the nature of a particular itinerary or its suitability for you, please contact us.
Easy / Leisurely:
Suitable for most people in good health, these trips include only a short element of trekking which is predominantly on good paths and at low altitude. However some physical preparation will certainly enhance your experience.
Moderate to Adventurous:
Suitable for reasonably fit individuals, holidays at this grade generally include relatively short walking days at moderate altitude below 5500 meters, on good paths and tracks. There can be the occasional more difficult day. Physical preparation is required, as there are some long and demanding days. No technical experience is needed, but a positive attitude and determination are essential.
Adventurous to Strenuous:
Physically challenging holidays, where you need to be prepared before you go. Holidays at this grade are suitable for regular hill walkers who are used to extended days and can involve difficult and sometimes glaciated terrain, as well as lengthy periods at high altitude. In this grade our holidays are involving in many long days’ often in isolated areas and at extreme altitude. It may also include difficult pass crossings, requiring basic mountaineering skills and equipment. A high level of fitness and previous wilderness and mountain experience is essential.
